Fred Walter, MA, C. Psych. Assoc. (supervised practice)
Fred Walter is a psychological associate in supervised practice. He earned his Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Western Cape and has worked in multiple mental health contexts in South Africa for the past decade.
Fred works mainly with adolescents and adults in short and longer term therapies. His areas of special interest include mood, anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders with individuals from diverse backgrounds (including LGBTIQA+, religious, and ethnic communities).
Fred works with clients to help them gain insight into how their current concerns have developed, and to work through the internal factors that render them feeling stressed, depressed, and otherwise “stuck” in their lives.
Fred conceptualizes his clients’ areas of concern within a psychodynamic framework (focusing on the conscious and unconscious, and exploring how earlier life experiences influence our relationships and perceptions today). His work is also informed by other theories (namely cognitive behaviour theory, mindfulness, existentialism, and critical theory).
